From LA, my favorite band used to be known as Xer0, then Hybrid Theory, and we now know them as Linkin Park. They changed their names to avoid legal troubles with other bands with the same name. They again changed their name, from "Lincoln" to "Linkin" so they can buy their own domain name. Linkin Park is a new type of music that is new. Most people know Linkin Park from the song One Step Closer, and Crawling. With the sound of Hip Hop, Rock and Electronic mixing, it gives Linkin Park a very nice sound. This band kicks @$$. Ask Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson for a wish-list of bands hed like to tour with, and hes ready with a response. "We told our manager, Pick a band and we can tour with them. Our music reaches out in so many directions that theres pretty much an unlimited amount of cool bands with which we could play.." Delson is understandably proud of the diversity and uniqueness apparent on the bands debut album, Hybrid Theory (the bands original name). Built on an aggressive hard rock foundation, flavored with hip-hop vocal stylings and electronic flourishes, Linkin Parks sound is utterly their own, an accomplishment strengthened by the bands remarkably powerful and unforced songwriting. But almost everything about Linkin Park has been unforced, including their Southern California origins. Delson and emcee/vocalist Mike Shinoda attended the same high school together, where Delson also met the bands drummer, Rob Bourdon. Shinoda then hooked up with DJ Joseph Hahn while studying painting at the Pasadena Art Center. The final piece in the puzzle was singer Chester Bennington, a transplanted Arizona native who started making records when he was sixteen. It was that cohesive style and instantly memorable songs that attracted immediate attention, starting with a publishing offer after the bands very first show at L.A.s famed Whisky. After showcasing around town and eventually inking with Warner Bros., the band began work on their first album with producer Don Gilmore (Eve 6, Lit, Pearl Jam). "We met with a lot of people and had a very difficult time deciding," says Shinoda. "But Don, aside from making things sound good, stood out as someone who could really push us further as songwriters. The end result is an album thats as well-crafted and melodic as it is confrontational, with a strong lyrical message. "We try to push real things through in our lyrics; whether its feeling insignificant or questioning your own thoughts or discovering the dark side of yourself." Weaving influences as diverse as Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Aphex Twin, and The Roots into a single unified whole, Linkin Park and Hybrid Theory are living proof that a fresh combination of talent, an unwavering dedication to craft, and a pure artistic vision can result in a powerful musical statement. "Ive wanted to do this my whole life, and I feel really blessed to be here," says Bennington. "A lot of hard work and dedication and faith can get you through anything and make it happen."

ONE STEP CLOSER

I cannot take this anymore I'm saying everything I've said before All these words they make no sense I find bliss in ignorance Less I hear the less you'll say But you'll find that out anyway Just like before...

Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break

I find the answers aren't so clear Wish I could find a way to disappear All these thoughts they make no sense I find bliss in ignorance Nothing seems to go away Over and over again

shut up when I'm talking to you

PAPERCUT

Why does it feel like night today? Something in here's not right today. Why am I so uptight today? Paranoia's all I got left I don't know what stressed me first Or how the pressure was fed But I know just what it feels like To have a voice in the back of my head It's like a face that I hold inside A face that awakes when I close my eyes A face watches every time I lie A face that laughs every time I fall (And watches everything) So I know that when it's time to sink or swim That the face inside is hearing me Right underneath my skin

It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back It's like a whirlwind inside of my head It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin

I know I've got a face in me Points out all my mistakes to me You've got a face on the inside too and Your paranoia's probably worse I don't know what set me off first but I know what I can't stand Everybody acts like the fact of the matter is I can't add up to what you can but Everybody has a face that they hold inside A face that awakes when I close my eyes A face watches every time they lie A face that laughs every time they fall (And watches everything) So you know that when it's time to sink or swim That the face inside is watching you too Right inside your skin

The Sun goes down I feel the world betray me

CRAWLING

Crawling in my skin These wounds / they will not heal Fear is how I fall Confusing what is real

Theres something inside me that pulls beneath the surface Consuming / confusing This lack of self control I fear is never ending Controlling / I cant seem To find myself again My walls are closing in [Without a sense of confidence / Im convinced there's just too much pressure to take] Ive felt this way before So insecure

Discomfort, endlessly has pulled itself upon me Distracting / reacting Against my will I stand beside my own reflection Its haunting how I cant seem To find myself again My walls are closing in [Without a sense of confidence / Im convinced there's just too much pressure to take] Ive felt this way before So insecure...

IN THE END

It starts with one thing I don't know why It doesn't even matter how hard you try keep that in mind I designed this rhyme To explain in due time All I know Time is a valuable thing Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings Watch it count down to the end of the day The clock ticks life away It's so unreal Didn't look out below Watch the time go right out the window Trying to hold on, but didn't even know Wasted it all just to watch you go I kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when

I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn't even matter I had to fall To lose it all But in the end It doesn't even matter

One thing, I don't know why It doesn't even matter how hard you try keep that in mind I designed this rhyme, to remind myself how I tried so hard In spite of the way you were mocking me Acting like I was part of your property Remembering all the times you fought with me I'm surprised it got so (far) Things aren't the way they were before You wouldn't even recognize me anymore Not that you knew me back then But it all comes back to me (in the end) You kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when I

I've put my trust in you Pushed as far as I can go And for all this There's only one thing you should know

Linkin Park Tour Dates

Linkin Park will be apart of the family values tour, with Stone Temple Pilots, Staind, Limp Bizkit, and others. Would anyone like some KORN?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September 6- Comments on MTVVA

Damn, one of the best MTVVA shows I've seen in a long time even though it was all N Sync, Lady Marmalade, Fatboy Slim, etc... the highlights of the show were probably Ramones, Aaliyah's tribute, Michael Jackson, U2. Even though Linkin Park walked out empty handed, they still had a kick ass performance.

September 7- Post MTVVA interview with LP
MTV: What do you have in store for us when you perform at the VMAs?
Joseph Hahn: We can't tell you. Just watch.
Chester Bennington: We'd really like to tell you, but unfortunately, we'd have to kill you.
Joseph Hahn: I'll give you a clue: We've added members to the band.
Mike Shinoda: We have some fire.
MTV: Who are you guys looking forward to seeing at the VMAs?
Joseph Hahn: We're looking forward to seeing Jennifer Lopez.
Chester Bennington: Alien Ant Farm, they're cool. U2 I'm totally stoked on U2 and Staind's performance.
MTV: Who do you think the night's big winner is going to be?
Joseph Hahn: I hope Gorillaz. I'm rooting for them, 'cause I think they're doing something really cool and innovative.
Chester Bennington: It's weird, 'cause I don't even know all the categories and who's being nominated. I'm the information-less guy.
Joseph Hahn: You've gotta say something so they can have a soundbite.
Chester Bennington: I think Madonna's gonna take all the awards. She always does.
Joseph Hahn: We're really happy just to be on the show and perform. I don't think we'll win anything. It'd be cool if we did, but it's more of an honor just to be here and participate.
Mike Shinoda: I wish At the Drive-In was nominated for more stuff. [Laughs]
Chester Bennington: And Weezer, too.
Mike Shinoda: Don't vote for Weezer, 'cause they're nominated for the same category as us.
Chester Bennington: Vote for Weezer, unless they're nominated in the same category we are.
Joseph Hahn: No. Don't vote for us.
MTV: In your opinion, what was the best video of the year?
Joseph Hahn: I would say "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz, besides our own.
Chester Bennington: The Gorillaz video.
MTV: Do you have a favorite VMA memory from years past?
Joseph Hahn: What about that guy that went up with the shirt off and started dancing? "Soy Milkman" or something?
MTV: That was the Grammys.
Joseph Hahn: Oh. [Laughs]
Chester Bennington: I like it when Jim Carrey comes out. Jim Carrey is funny. That's not the Video Music Awards, that's something else, isn't it?
Mike Shinoda: You liked Fartman.
Chester Bennington: I'm a dumbass.
